Recently, I had the privilege of attending a comprehensive First Aid Training Program organized by NIST Higher Education. Held at the College Seminar Hall on July 11, 2024, the session was led by the esteemed Dr. Abhirod Ranabhat, accompanied by two skilled nurses from Pacific Multispeciality Clinic. The event commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Savyata Gautam, head of the Department of Pharmacy, who introduced Dr. Ranabhat and emphasized the importance of first aid skills in our academic and personal lives.

Dr. Ranabhat, known not only for his medical expertise but also as a counselor in psychology, delivered an engaging and informative session. He began by addressing fundamental topics such as Epistaxis (nosebleeds), fractures and their management, dislocations, hemorrhages, choking incidents, seizures, and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Each topic was discussed in detail, ensuring that attendees gained a comprehensive understanding of emergency medical procedures.

One of the session's highlights was the practical demonstration of CPR techniques by the nurses. Through this hands-on approach, we learned the critical steps of CPR, emphasizing the importance of timely and effective intervention during emergencies. Dr. Ranabhat also underscored the ABC of first aid—Airway, Breathing, and CPR—a mnemonic that simplifies the initial steps in emergency response.
Beyond the technical aspects, Dr. Ranabhat shared valuable insights on mental health, citing alarming statistics about suicide rates among young people in Nepal due to stress, anxiety, and depression. His message about finding peace by managing expectations resonated deeply with the audience, reflecting his holistic approach to health and well-being.
Throughout the session, Dr. Ranabhat's engaging presentation style, enriched with humor and personal anecdotes, kept everyone attentive and involved. He encouraged active participation and addressed numerous questions from eager attendees, fostering a dynamic learning environment.Reflecting on the experience, I am confident that the knowledge gained during the first aid training will prove invaluable in both academic and real-life scenarios. The practical skills acquired, especially in CPR and emergency response, have equipped us to act swiftly and effectively in critical situations.
In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt thanks to Dr. Abhirod Ranabhat for his exceptional presentation and invaluable contribution to our training. His dedication to educating and empowering us in first aid practices has undoubtedly made a significant impact on all participants. This event not only enhanced our skills but also reinforced the importance of preparedness and compassion in times of need.
As we move forward, I encourage everyone to continue learning and practicing these essential skills, ensuring that we are always ready to provide assistance when it matters most.
